The myth and cult of the Havana cigar are a worldwide phenomenon, which is due to the exceptional quality of Cuban tobacco and has many followers. Enjoying a Habano is something special and gives the feeling of harmony in the form of a cigar.
The culture of tobacco cultivation and artisanal production of cigars
A trip that will let you experience facets of the metropolis of Havana and the tobacco province of Pinar del Rio with the impressive valley of Viñales. During the visit of a famous tobacco plantation in the region of Pinar del Rio you will get knowledge about the cultivation and harvest of the valuable tobacco leaves as well as their storage. In a cigar factory you will gain insight into the further processing up to the finished product in the beautifully packed cedar wood box. The trip is recommended for beginners who want to experience an introduction to the magic of Habanos in a short time.

Day 2
Havana
In the morning meeting with the tour guide who will explain the itinerary of the following days. Today you will visit the colonial old town with numerous, historic squares and buildings on a guided tour. During a visit to a cigar factory, you will see under expert guidance the processing of loose tobacco leaves to the finished product, which is packaged for sale in cedar boxes (*general holiday closing of factories). Return to the accommodation.
In the early evening, drive to the fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña, located on a hill opposite the old town, to participate in the traditional ceremony of the cañonazo. The marching in of the guards dressed in historical costumes, accompanied by the roll of drums, is followed by a loud cannon shot. This announced the closing of the city gates in the 18th century. After the ceremony, return to the private pension.
Day 3
Pinar del Rio and Viñales ValleyIn the morning, departure to the province of Pinar del Rio, where the most famous tobacco plantations are located. You will visit a small private tobacco plantation and have an insight into the life of the farmer's family; a homemade, typical Cuban coffee awaits you after the short visit. The impressive Viñales Valley, one of the most beautiful landscapes of Cuba, enchants with the green growth of the mogotes (cone rocks) and the red of the clayey soil. Arrival for lunch at a restaurant with delicious cuisine of the Pinarenos. The panoramic view of the valley is breathtaking, as it is located directly on an elevation of the valley.
In the afternoon you will visit the Cueva del Indio, an extensive cave system where indigenous people of the island had their dwelling place. Boats take you back to daylight on an underground river course.
After returning to the village, we allow ourselves a tasting of cigars and rum in a Cuban bar overlooking the hustle and bustle of the main street. A comfortable private pension awaits the guests in Viñales.
The evening is free to explore the tranquil village with the Casa de la Cultura, a classical cultural center, live music and dancing in the open-air venue. Restaurants and bars invite you to enjoy regional cuisine, a Cuban cocktail or a cigar.

Visit to the Casa de Selección with expert explanation of the further treatment of the tobacco leaves. One of the cigars rolled here by the professional will be presented for tasting. Enjoy a lunch in the rural restaurant of the farm.
In the afternoon return to Havana. Overnight/breakfast in an appealing private pension in the city.
For the adventurous there is still enough time to dive into the nightlife of Havana. We will be happy to give you suggestions.

Today ends the introduction to the culture of Cuban tobacco and cigars. After breakfast there might be some time left for strolling or shopping for souvenirs. By arrangement, your luggage can be stored in the guesthouse or hotel until your return flight or continuation of your travel.

The sowing and harvesting of the tobacco leaves takes place from the beginning of October to the end of March/mid-April.
* When the cigar factories in Havana are closed from aprox. Dec. 24 to about Jan. 20 for the vacation of the factory workers, the Francisco Donatién cigar factory in Pinar del Rio will be visited as a substitute.
