HORSEBACK RIDING IN THE WEST OF CUBA

THE 7-DAY TOUR

Everything for your Cuba trip

Experience the beautiful nature of the province Pinar del Rio in the saddle.

The charm lies in the beautiful landscape of the province of Pinar del Río and the tobacco plantations around the picturesque Viñales valley. Experience this on trails that start at the famous Finca Guabina. Horse and nature lovers will experience the equestrian sport, nature and people of this region on unique excursions.

Finca Guabina is famous for its first class horse breeding

The ranch offers the opportunity to watch professionals handling the horses and mounted vaqueros working the cattle. The horse breeds in Cuba are Appaloosa and Pinto Cubano. Of somewhat smaller stature, these breeds are enduring and mountain-going, which is quickly appreciated when a trail leads along a mountain trail that requires the rider to have a good sense of balance. On site you will be looked after by an English-speaking guide, who is familiar with the entire facility and the conditions there, as well as being able to show and explain many things on the finca: From organic farming with breeding of own vegetables and fruits, the multitude of animals on the property, the paddock to ride the horses, the stables, the small community of employees working there and their houses, the lake and river course and last but not least the history of the whole complex.

ITINERARY 7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS

Day 2-3 / 5-6

Mountain ranges, valleys, forests and waterfalls

The Pinar del Río region offers numerous scenic highlights. Mountain ranges and narrow valleys, crisscrossed by streams and rivers with waterfalls, amidst the lush greenery of the forests.

After breakfast, you will begin your 6-hour horseback ride through the region. Passing a great number of species of trees, shrubs, wild orchids and ferns, you will enjoy the clear air and the fragrance of the plants. The royal palm, a symbol of Cuba, rises again and again along the way and the bohios of the country people, wooden huts with roofs made of palm fronds, blend harmoniously into the landscape.

Day 4

Exploring Finca Guabina

Today you can recover from the - partly exhausting - excursions of the last days and explore the finca after breakfast. Perhaps you will also get the opportunity to lend a hand with the activities on the finca. For the more adventurous, a day trip to the Viñales valley is an option. The attraction in the valley are the up to 400m high Mogotes, cone rocks made of limestone. Framed by fields, tobacco plantations and red clay soil, they create a unique contrast to the blue of the sky. Visit the Cueva del Indio, a stalactite cave in a mogote with an underground river course where you can return to the open air in boats, and the Mural de la Prehistoria, a huge painting on a rock wall with prehistoric motifs
